Not immediately. The approach for .NET 1.0 was to provide access to the existing COM+ services (through an interop layer) rather than replace the services with native .NET ones. Various tools and attributes were provided to make this as painless as possible. Over time it is expected that interop will become more seamless - this may mean that some services become a core part of the CLR, and/or it may mean that some services will be rewritten as managed code which runs on top of the CLR.

OLE controls are the 32-bit successor to 16-bit VBX controls. Instead of being stored in a plain DLL and having functional interfaces, OLE controls rely on OLE automation. Hopefully this will make the interface more flexible and easier to use than VBXs. Although OLE controls use OLE, they are not object oriented. There is a flat set of properties you have access to and you can not apply OO techniques such as inheritance, polymorphism, etc.. to them.

When logging into Kohler PLUS for the first time you will be prompted to install the ActiveX Viewer. If you choose not to install, Kohler PLUS may not perform properly. We highly recommend the installation of ActiveX. Click Install Components. This should install in about 30 seconds depending on your internet connection.

To use our ActiveX upload tool, you need to have ActiveX controls enabled on your computer. To do this, click Tools > Internet Options from your browser's menu bar. Click on the Security tab at the top and then the custom Level... button on the bottom of the dialog box. A list of Security Settings will pop up. COM connect is a bridging layer written by David Bradley to transparently support ActiveX automation inside of XPConnect. It works by mapping data types, querying type libraries and much more to seamlessly bring the two together. When the plugin is built with COM connect support, it exposes the IDispatch interface of the control through the plugin API and the COM connect layer transparent maps it into XPConnect. The upshot is that you can call directly methods on ActiveX objects from JavaScript.
