Skin can become dry and sensitive from radiation. To help prevent dry, itchy skin, take warm showers or baths rather than hot ones. Hot water can dry your skin. Lubricate irritated areas with a water-based moisturizer, and use a lubricating soap. Be sure to use a sunscreen with at least SPF15. The lips are black because they have no fur to hide the intense pigmentation of the skin. For a flat-pick I like to tailor my own from store-bought. I start with a heavy triangular pick, something like the classic Fender or Gibson rounded triangle. But I prefer a tough nylon pick, like a Clayton. Then I trim the corners down to resemble the round upper shoulders of a classic Fender teardrop pick.
