Sometimes you will hear a single small squeak. We believe that the hamster is calling to another hamster in the hamstery, but a lone hamster is still know to make this noise. Also you may hear a 'terrible squealing when you put your hand in to handle a new hamster. This means that the hamster is afraid. It will not usually bite while it is making this noise. Pick up the hamster gently and cup it in your hands. It will gradually stop.

If you've ever seen the TV show "Skippy" you may have heard Skippy going "tch tch tch". I have never heard a kangaroo make that sound. A male will cluck at a female to reassure her when he's trying to mate with her and kangaroos of either gender will growl preparatory to fighting. Probably not, but it's possible a sonic boom may be heard somewhere along the descent path from Oregon to Utah. The capsule probably will not make any visible streaks in the sky as it descends through the atmosphere but it might. The capsule itself is less than five feet in diameter, probably too small to be seen, though its parachute will be visible to the retrieval helicopter pilots and possibly to nearby viewers at the test range. Opossums are very quiet creatures. You are far more likely to see one long before hearing any noises from it. When threatened they often will hiss, much like a cat, and can make a low growling sound. Some have reported hearing opossums softly purring to their young, though I have never been so privileged. Yes they can see something. I think that they can make out details for a couple of inches and beyond that they only seem to see big objects. One of my hamsters was able to follow my hand when I moved it several inches away from his ball. They can watch a human from across the room and will wait until the human is out of sight before running out of the room. If you have a Syrian hamster, often called the "Teddy Bear Hamster", the answer is "no". Syrian hamsters are solitary, if you try to keep two together one will eventually kill the other. Technically it's not hibernation, but they will slow down their body functions (they become "torpid") if the room temperature of the room they are in gets unusually low, but shouldn't just go into hibernation just because it's the winter season. If your hamster reaches this state, in most cases do not to disturb them. Let them come out of it naturally. Golden hamsters become sluggish at about 14C and torpid at about 10C. The description for this is like hearing an electric pencil sharpener or a huge swarm of bumble bees. You will almost belive that by the time your glider stops crabbing at you, your house will be filled to the ceiling with newly sharpened pencils. They also bark at each other and this is one of my favorite noises as they sound like miniature micro puppies.
