The general health of the animal is not generally affected. However, certain side effects of the hives can cause secondary problems. If extremely itchy, the dog can traumatize itself by scratching and licking.

In general, it would be a good idea to start some oral Benadryl and see your DVM. The Benadryl cannot treat hives that are already there, but will help to prevent further hives from forming. From a medical standpoint, there is no way of telling if an allergic reaction will lead to a swelling of the airway. While very rare, this throat swelling is very dangerous and must be addressed at once.

There is always a need for foster homes, transportation assistance and people willing to do homechecks. Read every book and web page on boxers, their characteristics and temperaments. Visit a dog show, obedience/training club or agility trial and talk with owners (after their dog has competed). Join an email list or a forum and learn about the breed and be willing to accept that a boxer is not for everyone, but people that do have the lifestyle and temperament to welcome one into their homes very seldom will ever have another breed.

Not a good plan. You've gone through all that trouble to put a wicking layer close to your skin, don't stick a highly absorbant thermal conducting layer in between you and that great wicking stuff.

Going to a dog show and talking to breeders is a great place to start. If that isn't an option, get a hold of your local dog club for references or contact the American Boxer Club for breeders near you. Ask lots of questions. It's ultimately up to you to screen breeders as the good ones will be screening you, too!
