What is the difference between balanced and unbalanced audio connections?
FAQ: Questiions about Soundcard and Audio Interface DriversTweak: A) Balanced means it takes a 3 conductor plug like a headphone plug on each mono channel (as opposed to the little stereo jacks that carry both channels on a soundcard). Note that a balanced connection is NOT stereo even though they use the same "headphone style" TRS connector. (TRS stand for tip+ring+sleeve). Also note that to obtain the benefit of the balanced connection the output of the gear you connect must also be balanced.
What is the difference between balanced and unbalanced glulam?
FAQGlulam allows the manufacturer to place wood species in the lay-up to the material's best advantage in resisting applied stresses. The whole premise of a glued laminated beam is that you are trying to put the high strength material in the extreme zones of the cross sectional member, so when the beam is loaded, the high strength material is located where the stresses would be the highest. Is it OK to mix balanced and unbalanced connections?
PatchbaysDepending on the abilities of the equipment being connected, mixing balanced and unbalanced signals on the same jackfield shouldn't cause any more problems than connecting the equipment together directly. In fact there are some advantages to wiring everything as if it was balanced, as this can help reduce ground-loop problems. However, never plug an unbalanced (tip-sleeve) plug into a balanced microphone socket if phantom power is present (see the previous question). See similar questions...
Can I run the BALANCED and the UNBALANCED outputs to two different systems at the same time?
Technical SupportYes. Just be aware that if you mix unbalanced with balanced you invite hum and buzz into your system. See the Operators Manual, specifically the section on switching the PHONO 3 INTERNAL PROGRAM JUMPERS. These two jumpers need to be set for the PHONO position. They are shipped in the FLAT position which allows for line level input. See similar questions...
How do you unbalance a balanced audio line so you can drive an unbalanced input?
Audio-Technica - Microphones, headphones, wireless microphon...Balanced connectors are usually 3-pin XLR connectors in which Pin 1 is ground, Pin 2 is audio positive (also called Hot), and Pin 3 is audio negative (also called Cold). Balanced connectors may also be a 3 conductor TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) connector where Tip is audio positive, Ring is audio negative and Sleeve is ground. Unbalanced connectors are usually TS (Tip Sleeve) connectors; Tip is the audio signal and Sleeve is ground. See similar questions...
Are the outputs of the ESQ1 balanced or unbalanced?
Ensoniq - F.A.Q.Unbalanced. If you only require mono, plug a two circuit 1/4 inch plug into the left/mono jack. If you require stereo output use both left and right outputs. Assuming the battery was installed correctly and not backwards, and took all anti-static precautions, make sure all the cables are pushed in and seated properly. You may also have to perform a hard reset. See similar questions...
Q) Are the outputs balanced or unbalanced?
Atomic AmpsA) The “send left” and “send right” outputs, located on the rear of the Reactor are unbalanced and are direct feeds from the modeler’s left and right outputs. The “return” input also located on the rear of the amp is unbalanced and is a direct feed to the Reactor’s power amp section. See similar questions...
Why is the RNC unbalanced instead of balanced?
FMR RNC Compressor FAQ - Frequently Asked QuestionsYou'd think the answer to this one would be a simple "to keep costs down". Although that's one of the reasons, there's another reason that's less obvious and the primary one: we designed the RNC to be used in home studios (like ours) made up primarily of unbalanced pieces. So, we designed it to easily interface to equipment usually found in the intended environment. For example, many home studios use mixing boards that have single Tip-Ring-Sleeve insert points on their input channels. See similar questions...
What means "balanced" and "unbalanced" partner; how to define this?
CELTIC Frequently Asked QuestionsIn order to simplify the handling of IPR and use of knowledge the PCR proposes to indicate for the individual project partners if their contribution would be similar in effort and value compared to other partners. If this is the case the partners should consider those partners as "balanced". In case of major discrepancies in effort/ value the partners will be considered as "unbalanced". Q3.6 - How do I interconnect balanced and unbalanced components?
Path: senator-bedfellowFirst, let's define what the terms mean. The simplest audio circuit uses a single wire to carry the signal; the return path, which is needed for current to flow in the wire, is provided through a ground connection, usually through a shield around the wire. This system, called unbalanced transmission, is very susceptible to hum pickup and cannot be used for low level signals, like audio, for more than a few feet. See similar questions...

What is the difference between the EFFECTS SEND / RETURN and INSERT connections?
Technical SupportThe SEND / RETURN connections provide for up to a 50:50 mix of the effect signal and the dry audio, but the INSERT points interrupt the signal path such that the entire audio path us routed through the external processor. Typically delay, reverb, chorus and other similar units are connected to the EFFECTS SEND / RETURN points. The INSERT jacks are better suited for compressor / limiters, aural enhancers and equalizers. Yes. In fact you can use all four outputs at once. See similar questions...
How do I wire the output for unbalanced use?
Technical SupportSince this unit uses a cross-coupled output, it is imperative that pin 3 be grounded to pin 1 and the audio positive connected to pin 2. It is also very important to make sure the unit is earth grounded using a separate wire connected to the chassis ground screw near the red power connector. See Sound System Interconnection for further details. Not having an earth ground connection to the chassis is the number one cause of failure See similar questions...

What's the difference between subliminal and hypnosis audio?
Frequently Asked Questions: Sprudio-Subliminal AudioThe short answer to this is that subliminal audio messages are hidden and can be more easily used than hypnosis (by merely playing the discs).
